  The child had a headache and eye pain for more than a month. He went to many departments such as pediatrics, ophthalmology, and neurology to see the doctor. After a round of inspection, he took a lot of medicine, but the symptoms did not relieve. It was only after an MRI examination that he found the cause, which turned out to be sinusitis.

  Why can sinusitis cause headache and eye pain?

Let's first understand the structure of the sinuses.

  There are four pairs of sinuses around the human nasal cavity: maxillary sinus, ethmoid sinus, sphenoid sinus and frontal sinus. They are all bone cavities around the nose. Mucosal glands distributed in the cavity will secrete a certain amount of mucus, which will drain into the nasal cavity through the natural opening of the sinuses to form nasal mucus.

  Nasal sinusitis will be caused if the secretions of the sinuses are not discharged in time. If it is bilateral ethmoid sinus and frontal sinus inflammation, the two places between the eyes and the forehead will cause forehead and eye pain.

  In China, the prevalence rate of sinusitis is about 8%, accounting for about 10% of the number of otorhinolaryngology patients. It is easy to occur in all people, especially children and the elderly and the infirm.

  Nasosinusitis can be divided into acute and chronic. Acute sinusitis usually occurs after a cold, with persistent nasal congestion, purulent runny nose, headache and even fever; Chronic sinusitis is commonly characterized by nasal obstruction, repeated runny nose or purulent secretion, epistaxis, cough, and some people also have decreased sense of smell. Long term nasal congestion can cause headache and dizziness.

  Chronic sinusitis can also be divided into bacterial, viral, allergic and fungal. However, in fact, no independent pathogenic factor has been identified, and most of them are just inducing or susceptible factors.

  The structure of the sinuses is that the opening is small and the inside is large. Sinusitis is more difficult to cure than rhinitis, and it is easy to recur. The treatment mainly includes drug treatment and surgical treatment, aiming to control inflammation and infection and improve the clinical symptoms of patients. However, there are few blood vessels in the mucosa of the nasal sinus intima, which makes it difficult to achieve the efficacy of medicine. Puncture or sinus ostium resection is risky and easy to recur.

  Nasal washing is beneficial to the treatment of rhinitis, but due to the structure of the sinuses, the effect is limited. Nasal washing mainly acts on the nasal cavity, not on the sinuses.

  Salt aerosol therapy can make up for the defects of the above treatment scheme. Because salt aerosol is a very small suspended particle emitted by a special generating device, its dispersion is very strong, it can be inhaled into the nasal cavity and sinuses, and evenly distributed on the surface of the nasal mucosa, accelerating the clearance of cilia of the nasal mucosa, and playing a humidification, anti-inflammatory, bacteriostatic and anti-virus effect in the sinuses.

  It is important to prevent sinusitis at ordinary times

  1. Protect the nose hair and nasal mucosa, and overcome the bad habits of picking and cutting nose hair by hand;

  2. Combine work and rest, pay attention to daily physical exercise, and maintain good physique and resistance;

  3. Pay attention to environmental hygiene, reduce the exposure to tobacco, alcohol and other irritants, and avoid the invasion of dust and toxic substances;

  4. When washing your face in the morning, you can wash your nose several times with cold water, which can improve the blood circulation of the nasal mucosa, enhance the adaptability of your nose to weather changes, and prevent colds;

  5. Timely treatment after a cold can prevent the development of sinusitis;

  6. Long term use of the Sinashu salt sol therapeutic instrument can protect the nasal sinus mucosa and reduce inflammation.
